The report says that while the use of AI by criminals remains at an early stage, there is widespread evidence emerging of a substantial acceleration in AI-enabled crime as criminals look to automate and augment existing online crime types. The findings echo themes discussed in Europol's recent EU-SOCTA report (see The corrosive influence of tech-enabled organised crime), highlighting the rise in application of AI across financial fraud, child sexual abuse material (CSAM), phishing, and romance scams.
