Rise of AI threatens freedom of elections across Europe, UK deputy speaker claims

Research published in September last year by the Alan Turing Institute found, however, that there is no evidence of AI having enabled misinformation to “meaningfully” impact recent UK or European election results. The research identified 16 “confirmed viral cases of AI-enabled disinformation or deepfakes” during the UK general election, while 11 viral cases were identified in the EU and French elections combined.
